From
our Rabbis:
Since its founding in
1997 by Rabbi Kinneret Shiryon and a small group of committed
volunteers, YOZMA has always viewed Chanukah as the community's
special holiday.
YOZMA's dedication ("chanukah") in the summer
of 1997 was the first of many precedent-setting dedications
("chanukot") to follow.
Already by the fall of 1997 YOZMA dedicated the first of
many temporary structures that would house our growing community
over the coming years. By the fall of 1999, we dedicated
the site that housed the cluster of temporary prefab structures
that would be our home for the next 11 years – the site
that was recently demolished by the city of Modi'in.

Louis - Modi'in
In
early December, a delegation of YOZMA educators – including
Rabbi Nir Barkin, Executive Director
Yossi Aud and JDS Principal Nava
Assulin - participated in a week-long visit to
Congregation Temple Israel in St. Louis, Missouri.
The YOZMA group was warmly-hosted
by the community whose families welcomed the delegation
into their homes and whose staff welcomed their Israeli
counterparts into their classrooms.
The visit marks another milestone
in the ongoing relationship between the two communities
- begun in 2008 with Rabbi Emeritus
Mark Shook's and Director of Education
Debbie Morosohk's initiative.
