The March of The Living
(Mitz'ad HaHayim), that began in Auschwitz, culminates
at the Children's Forest in Modi'in
On Thursday, May 19th, a very moving and outstanding
ceremony took place at the Children's Forest in Modi'in
Recently,
the YOZMA community, together with our many friends
and supporters from around the world, was proud to
present the city of Modi'in with the Children's Forest
- commemorating the 1.5 million children who perished
in the Holocaust. The forest was established in cooperation
with JNF, the Modi'in Municipality and the Center for
Holocaust and Humanity Education in Cincinnati Ohio.
350
youth from the Jewish community in Mexico City participated
in the March of the Living in Auschwitz. They landed
in Israel early in the morning and arrived at the forest
directly from the airport. Together with children from
the HaEla elementary school and the YOZMA community,
a touching ceremony was held.
YOZMA's
Executive Director in Modi'in, Mr. Yossi Aud, welcomed
the delegation, that had met with his father, a Holocaust
survivor, during their visit at Auschwitz. Mr. Asher Aud
revealed his horrifying memories from the death march
63 years ago.
During
the ceremony, the youth from Mexico City read aloud
some sections from diaries belonging to children who
perished in the Holocaust. At the end of each part
about a child that was killed, a child from the HaEla
school came up and revealed his/her dream and ambitions
for his/her future…
The loss of the Holocaust children became the hope of
today's children for a promising and flourishing future
for the Jewish nation.
When
the ceremony ended, the youth from Mexico City, together
with the children from Modi'in, planted saplings and hung
ribbons with butterflies on the trees.
It
was a chilling moment, while the participants all held
their heads up to the sky in prayer, a huge flock of
storks flew above - migrating back to Europe…
After
singing "HaTikvah", the entire delegation
burst out in song and dance, singing "Am Israel
Chai".
