From our Rabbis
Yesterday I was sitting in
a cafe for a work meeting and we were served by a waiter
with kitty cat ears and whiskers, and the coffee bar attendee
had a top hat on her head and white gloves gracing her
hands as she tap-danced her way to the coffee maker.

Yozma’s
Musical Tu B’Shvat ConcerTeva
It
was an exceptionally sunny Friday morning as YOZMA gathered
to celebrate Tu B'Shvat amongst the grown trees and the
new saplings of our Children's Forest (dedicated 3 years
ago, the only forest in Israel in the memory of the children
who perished in the Holocaust).

Purim
at the YOZMA Elementary School
The Purim
holiday highlights the issue of women's leadership. We
seek to instill in our students the issue of equality
between the sexes and the responsibility of the community
for which each one of us is accountable. In most other
holidays, men are at the center of events, Purim is a
holiday where a woman is responsible for the outcome.
Compared to Vashti, the modern woman, Esther is pictured
as a respectable woman willing to sacrifice her happiness
to save her people.

YOZMA celebrates Purim
Once
again YOZMA is setting precedents.
YOZMA is the first non-Orthodox community to have been
granted a synagogue building by the State of Israel. And
now, just two years later, this building was too small
to accommodate the crowd that attended the Megillah
reading at YOZMA this year. In yet another precedent,
YOZMA held its reading at the Modi'in cultural center.
Every one of the 600 seats was occupied. Unfortunately,
many more were turned away for lack of space.

Family Day at YOZMA
Family
day is a relatively new holiday in the constantly evolving
Israeli culture. Originally created as Mother’s day -
in honor of Henrietta Szold, the founder of Hadassah -
in recent years, Mother’s day evolved into the somewhat
more politically correct “Family day.”
