From our Rabbis:
To our dear
friends and colleagues overseas, Shalom!
The summer of 2009 (5769) hopefully
marks the tentative beginnings of a worldwide economic
recovery.
Many times over this past year we
found ourselves worrying what the future would hold for
our overseas friends and colleagues - in addition to concerns
about our own prospects.
While we had faith in our abilities
- repeatedly tested over the course of our lives and careers
- we knew that every crisis has its unique challenges and
that the stakes are continually raised.

Bnai/Bat
Mitzvah celebration for the Bet-Eden children:
"Hey! I want to have an aliya to the Torah too!"
said Michael, a sweet 14-and-a-half year old blonde-haired
boy with a heart-breaking smile. "But you've already
celebrated your bar mitzvah!" I answered. "True,
but I didn't have an aliya and I want one!" "You
didn't? Then of course you can have an aliya with us.
We'd only planned on Natanel having an aliya this year,
but you will have one with him."

Shavuot
at YOZMA:
A Vision in White
Like in past years, this year’s two YOZMA kita aleph (first
grade) classes officially received their own siddurim
at a beautiful ceremony on erev Shavout.
In our family, our youngest daughter Noa was so excited,
that she could barely wait for the day to come. How much
longer? When will Thursday come?? “Ooof” (loosely translated
as “I have lost my patience”). She just could not wait
for the ceremony, to receive her siddur, to sing the songs,
to celebrate with everyone.

Shavuot
Happening at YOZMA
This year, the YOZMA preschool classes celebrated Shavuot
at a big family happening!
Parents and children from the entire YOZMA education framework,
together with Community members – all gathered at the
preschool yard, and the classes were transformed into
special activity stations in the spirit of Megillat Ruth.
At the entrance to each preschool class an appropriate
verse taken from the Megilla as a clue as to the activity
in that room.

Looking
back on the 5769 School year:
Preschool
With the summer upon us, we look back
with pride upon the entire school year, which was filled
with creativity, productivity, and lots of fun!
All through the year, the children learned, created, grew,
and developed – all the while being enriched by progressive
Jewish values. They experienced Kabbalat Shabbat Services,
Havdallah Services, Rosh Chodesh ceremonies and especially
enjoyed the stories of Biblical and historical heroes
and of our rich Jewish heritage.

School
Year
With the school year nearly over, we at YOZMA are gearing
up for an exciting summer program to serve the growing
number of children in YOZMA's preschool and elementary
school frameworks. We finish the school year on a high;
with positive feedback all around – from the parents,
staff and children in our preschool and elementary school
frameworks. We have successfully implemented a year-round
progressive Jewish program rich in spiritual, emotional,
physical and cognitive elements. The program is uniquely
suited to the goals and high standards that we as a community
have set. YOZMA's progressive Jewish spirit permeates
each activity in the daily schedule of every preschool
and elementary school class.

Modi'in
Municipality announces plans to demolish structures housing
YOZMA's preschool classes
The Modi'in municipality has formally notified YOZMA of
its plans to demolish the pre-fab structures that currently
house YOZMA's preschool classes. The city announced that
as of September 2010, construction of a school will begin
on the site and YOZMA will have to find alternative sites
to house the community's six preschool classes. YOZMA's
preschool classes have been held at this site for the
better part of a decade.
