The
Tree-by-Tree Forest
The Children’s Holocaust Memorial
Forest in Modi’in
|
In a moving ceremony which took place on the
Eve of Tu-B'Shvat, a dream came true… the Children's
Forest was inaugurated and the first trees were planted
to commemorate the 1.5 million children who perished
in the Holocaust.
The
distinguished guests included a delegation from Cincinnati
led by Dr. Racelle Weiman – the founder and initiator
of the project, and Professor Henry Fenichel – survivor
and representative of The Center for Holocaust and
Humanity Education, Mr. Moshe Spector - the Mayor of
Modi'in, Mr. Nathan Eitan – Director General Yad VaShem,
Mr. Asher Aud – Minister Rafi Eitan's assistant responsible
for Holocaust Survivors, Mr. Yigal Yardeni – representative
of Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael, members of the YOZMA community
and residents of the city. Rabbi Kinneret Shiryon gave
a special blessing for this momentous occasion.
The ceremony included a number of moving speeches,
a colorful song and dance performance by YOZMA's pre-school
and first grade children and planting of trees. The Tree-by-Tree Children's Forest, a living memorial
for the young children who were taken from us, will
become a year-round educational and cultural park,
vibrant and full of life, with a state-of-the-art children's
playground, including special facilities for disabled
children.
We
invite you to be a part of this unique project,
led by YOZMA and The Center for Holocaust and Humanity
Education either by purchasing trees or by contributing
to other aspects of this educational program. Please
encourage your family, friends and members of your
community and synagogue to join in.
